We read G is for Gold Medal: An Olympics Alphabet (Sleeping Bear Press Sports & Hobbies). We read the letter O for Opening ceremonies. It talked about the rich display of culture for the hosting country and fireworks. We talked a little bit about London.
What do you need: paper plates, black construction paper, elastic balls (found dollar section at Target), paints: red, orange, yellow, purple, white and pink.

The girls went to making the fireworks. It was a challenge for them to share one paper, but it worked on their taking turns and sharing.

The Final product.
