How we made the Torn Paper Olympic Torch Craft
You will see the steps below we used to make this craft.
Step 1: Put Glue on the Torch Handle
You can take your glue that place it on on side of the brown construction paper torch handle. You can use any glue you think would work best for you kids. We used clear glue because that is what we happened to have on hand.
Step 2: Place the hand at the Bottom of the Paper
You want to take the handle that you just put glue on and place it at the bottom of the paper. But if they place it in the middle that is okay. This is their craft they are making.
Step 3: Tear Up The Red, Yellow and Orange Paper
You are going to tear up the construction paper next. Kids are going to tear of strips and then make smaller pieces of that paper. They are going to use fine motor skills to tear the paper.
You can see below the small pieces of paper that we tore up. This is great for fine motor and there is no wrong size for the pieces. It kids want bigger pieces that is okay.
You can also just tear that paper up as you glue the pieces on the paper.
Step 4: Put Glue on the Paper for where the Flame on the Torch Would Be
You are going to put glue down on the while paper above where the torch handle would be. You can let kids decide the size the flames will be.
So a small amount of glue is okay. We found that we added more glue at times while we were placing the paper on it. Keep the glue around incase you need more.
Step 5: Place the Red, Yellow and Orange Pieces on the Glue
The last step is to place the red, orange and yellow construction pieces on the glue at the top of the torch. You can place them randomly around.
Or you are start at the bottom of work you way to the stop of the flame. Either way works. And let kids decide what way they their their flame should look.

Welcome!
Cute torches! I love that you connected the craft to a book. It’s such a good way to deepen the experience.
The girls love any time we do crafts with books.
Great idea for a companion story. Little ones love tearing paper!
Yes they do!
Those torches are great! We may have to make those soon. My kids enjoyed the mazes at lunch today. The simple trace-the-line ones were perfect for my littlest one. What a good idea! We also made glittery Olympic flags today: http://www.examiner.com/article/make-a-glittery-olympic-flag. Thanks again for the great printables!
