Hands-On Fun With the Free Star Themed Shape Playdough Mat
Space is one theme we just love at our house. We have been doing space activities it seems like forever.
I love looking at stars and constellations. They always make such great shapes in the sky. With that thought I made these free star themed shape playdough mats.
So have some fun with the space themed playdough mats with shapes and starts.

What are Playdough Mats?
Playdough mats are a great way for kids to build fine motor skills while teaching skills like ABCs, numbers, and shapes.
But you can also use playdough mats to work on sight words, CVC words, and more. There is no limit on the way a playdough mat can be used.
Star Shape Playdough Mat Printable
I love having fun and different activities that I can change up. That is where these star playdough mats come from. Fun ideas we have done before but in a new theme. These are similar to the dinosaur shape mats.
Each star shape playdough mat has a shape that is made with by stars. Each of the stars is connected to make the shape in the night sky.
Thses star shape mats are a great addition to the shape printables on the site.
Because this is a space playdough mat I wanted to have a fun black background for the mat! I thought it would be so much fun to use. But because I know that not everyone likes printing tons of black ink I made sure to include a white background option as well.
I printed out the white version on stardust cardstock

Ways To Use These Star Shape Playdough Mats
I am going to show you a few ways to use these space shape playdough mats.
Use Playdough on the Shape Mats
I love to put the space playdough mats in sheet protectors because I can pull out just the mats I need or put the mats back to back. If you plan to use them over and over then I recommend laminating them.
The most basic way you can use these is a playdough mat. You can make playdough snakes and put them around the shape. We used yellow playdough.
Match Stars to the Space Shape Mats
One way you can use the star shape playdough mats is to place star buttons on each of the stars on the mat. It is a great one to one correspondence. Plus they can see how the stars make the shape.
Trace the Shape Playdough Mat
If you have printed the star shape playdough mats with the black background, put it in a sheet protector or laminate it and kids can practice tracing the shape with a black dry erase marker. You can watch the white line disappear.
Playdough Shapes on the Mat
Another way to do this star shape playdough mat is to cover the stars with playdough circles. We do this a lot. Or you could roll playdough our and use a star cookie cutter to make star shapes.
