Fall Themed Gross Motor
We are back to regular gross motor posts again. This time we are back with our Fall themed gross motor. This is another book and gross motor activity. We always have tons of fun with these!
I am continuing the post for the Old Lady Book Series. This month we have There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves!. This is a fun fall book to read. I’m going to show you few fun gross motor ideas to do while reading the book or with a photo dice. This is a great way to get kids who don’t want to sit and have a book read to them involved in the reading.
What you need for this activity: Fall Pack part 1, photo dice, and There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves!.
Gross Motor Movements
I always read the book through with them girls. The second time we do the movements every time the word is repeated. It is lots of fun to see them moving and smiling while we do the activities. Yes, I do the activities with them. It is just as fun to move with them. I encourage you to do the activity with them.
Old Lady: She would walking across the room slowly. I challenge her to lift her foot as little as possible.
Leaves: She would sway side to side slowly to the ground.
Shirt: She would shake her arms as fast as she could.
Pumpkin: She would rock back and forth on her back.
Pole: She would roll like a log across the room. She would work on being straight like a pole.
Pants: She would lay on her back and kick her legs.
Rope: She would make her arms do waves.
Hay: She would pretend to shovel hay. She would dig down with her pick fork and put it over her head.
Scarecrow: You have them do a silly walk. This is fun to challenge them to be as silly as they can be.
The Dice
After we have read the book I cut up the cards from the Fall pack that match up with the book. I cut them up and put them in the photo die. This allows them to do the gross motor movements at random. My girls will play with a gross motor die for a while. I leave it out so they can use it often. This gives them a chance to get movements without me telling them to. The rule with the die is that they can’t throw it at anyone.
