April 2012 Book Finds!

Here are some great books we have been reading. Some we have bought, but you never know what you can find at the library! The books from this month have the following themes: spring, math and abcs.

April 2012 Book Finds!

Every month the girls look for new books. The books can be different than what we normally look for, but gives us a fun challenge to see what we can find.

Split! Splat!

Split! Splat! by Amy Gibson and Steve BjorkmanThis book is a fun play on words. Rhyming words change one vowel at a time all while exploring spring rain, mud, and getting clean. You can get kids guessing what word will be next.

And Then It's Spring

And Then It’s Spring by Julie Fogliano we follow a boy in spring planting. It starts out dark and brown and follows through until everything is green. It shows the slow progress of plants.

1+1=5: and Other Unlikely Additions

1+1=5: and Other Unlikely Additions by David LaRochelleIt is fun to watch my girls add everything up in different ways. The combinations include sports teams and other fun ideas. They keep your guessing what combination will be next.

The Falling Raindrop

The Falling Raindrop by Neil Johnson & Joel ChinThe store of a raindrop falling from the sky and the emotions that it goes through. See the activity we did with the book here.

Turn-Around, Upside-Down Alphabet Book

The Turn-Around, Upside-Down Alphabet Book (ALA Notable Children’s Books. Younger Readers (Awards)) by Lisa Campbell Ernst The girls fell in love with this book. Turn the book and see what the letter becomes next. We took foam letters and turned them as the story went along. This is a book you can read over and over because it is always fun to see how they act out that letter.
