10+ Gross Motor Book Ideas!
We always have fun with gross motor movements at our house. I’m always looking for different ways to add it. One really fun way is to add gross motor movements to books we read.
This is super easy and fun at the same time. I have blogged about a few of them over the last few years. I thought I would share some of them and show you how easy it is to do. Plus with this month’s 30 Days of Moving with kids Challenge.
First, thing you do is pick a book you are going to read. I look at action words or animals. For example in the book Where the Wild Things Are. There are many examples of action words. One word that we picked to do for the activity was the boat. Now you think of ways to make it a movement. You can see what we did with the book here.
Books with animals are really a lot of fun! There are so many different animal movements you can do! You can keep it simple or make it complicated. Jump, Frog, Jump! is a great book to do gross motor with. I made a printable for it. There are several animals in the book and you can repeat the movements several times while reading or just call the animals out after reading the book.
One of our favorite books to do gross motor with is Dr. Seuss’s ABC (Beginner Books, I Can Read It All By Myself). There are so many words you can use to get moving! We have so much fun doing all the movements. You can do a letter as you are learning in for writing.
