Wild West Noun & Verb Sorting with Ghost Town at Sundown
Each new themed in the Magic Tree House books is so fun to explore. We are having a blast with it.
With this book, we enter the wild west. I love this since I great up in the west and my family lived there during this time. It is fun to explore that with my girls.
Today, we are having fun exploring some nouns and verbs from the book.
The Wild West Noun & Verb Sorting is a great addition to the Magic Tree House Activities on the site.
We are in the book Ghost Town at Sundown (Magic Tree House). I love that it is a west as I said before. And I had so many things we wanted to do that we might have to come back and explore it again.
You can also use the Wild West: A Nonfiction Companion with this activity.
The activity we are doing is sorting nouns and verbs. This is a great way to explore the words you read from the book. You might have new words and old words you could use.
There is a sorting mat for nouns and verbs. I like to print this mat on cardstock to help it stand up. If you plan on using it a lot then laminate it to stand up to a lot of use.
You have the sorting cards. They each have a cactus on them. There are 10 cards for the nouns and verbs. I printed these on cardstock.
Then the final part of the printable is the writing sheet. This lets you pick a noun and verb and make a sentence.
Things to use with this Wild West Noun & Vowel Sorting Activity:
- printer
- copy paper
- white cardstock
- pencil
- Safari Ltd Desert TOOB
- laminator
- laminating pouches
- scissors
- bin
- rice
How we used this Wild West Noun & Verb Sorting
I cut up the cards and put them in a desert and wild west theme. It has a rice base with the Safari Ltd Desert TOOB and the cards cut up and mixed into the rice.
They have fun pulled the cards from the bin. It is simple and easy to do. Plus it great for those that love sensory play.
We look at the cards and talk about the word. Is it a verb or a noun. We might also talk about where the word would have been in the story.
After we talk about the word we sort the word to the correct mat.
Then we have a little fun with a writing activity. I had her pick two words from the mats and then write about them. She wrote the names she worked on and then wrote some sentences. She also picked another noun to use in her writing.
You can also do more with the desert animals in the Desert Pack.
