Have Loads of Fun With Wiggle and Shake Gross Motor Dice
It is winter and we can’t always get outside and play. For several years my girls and I were stuck inside without an easy area to play in the snow. It was always hard. We were recently stuck inside while it snowed outside and we needed something to get the wiggles out.
I pulled out my list of gross motor activities and looked to see what I could be made into a fun dice activity. One we love to do was the hokie pokie! It has great movements and kids love it.
The Wiggle & Shake Gross Motor Dice is our fun twist on the hokie pokie!
The Wiggle and Shake Gross motor dice is similar to the Jumping Jacks Dice. In that, there are just words and no pictures on the dice. Each side of the dice has a body part or parts to shake or wiggle.
Each dice set has their own fun gross motor activities, but with the cube dice you can mix them up! The cube dice have the movement on them and the folding dice just have the name.
I have found that the cube dice tend to last longer and my girls just love throwing the dice around. All to often my girls like to throw the dice at the ceiling.
I printed out the color dice on stardust white card stock. It adds a little extra color to even the colored dice.
The Wiggle & Shake Movements
The Wiggle & Shake movements are really simple and can be done just standing in one place. That is what is so fun about these dice. You don’t need a ton of space to use them.
There are two dice to pick from or you can mix them up together in the cube dice. We like using the cude dice for mixing things up.
First Wiggle & Shake Dice
The first dice has simple movements to make it easy for younger ages to use. You have single movements like just one arm or just one leg.
Single Arms: You shake or wiggle just either the right or left arm.
Single Legs: You shake or wiggle just either the right or left leg.
Whole Body: You shake or wiggle every part of your body.
Second Wiggle & Shake Die
The second dice changes the movements up a bit. You are mixing up the different body parts that you are shaking. They might be the same side of different sides. or same body parts.
Shake Both Arms: You shake or wiggle both arms together.
Shake Both Legs You shake or wiggle both legs together. (We sat on the floor for this one.)
Shake Right Side You shake or wiggle your right arm and leg.
Shake Left Side You shake or wiggle your left arm and leg.
Shake Opposite Arm and Leg Side You shake or wiggle your left arm and right leg or your right arm and left leg.
After you are sure of the movements you can change up the dice a bit. You can add speed and how many times they do the movement. You can get the number dice here.
If you don’t want to mess with the dice, you can always just print them and use them as a set of cards. Mix them up and have them turn over the gross motor they will do. You can also mix in other of the gross motor dice as well! My girls loving using the cube dice because they can throw them in the air!
