Watermelon Addition Matching
There are so many fun ways to work on addition and I love changing it up for each season!
Plus it is fun to change how we work on the addition as well.
Today I have a fun matching activity with addition and watermelons. It is a fun free watermelon addition matching game.
This is a great addition to the summer printables on the site.
You can have fun by changing up how you work on an activity. By changing the addition to a fun matching game you change how kids learn. I love having hands-on printables when I can.
This set focuses on how to add and that different numbers can add up to the same number.
There are 10 watermelon slices. They each have a number on them from 1 to 10. I recommending printing these on cardstock and laminating them.
There are two seed cards with addition equations that match each watermelon. That is 20 seeds in total. I also recommend that these be printed on cardstock at cardstock and laminated.
There is also a recording sheet that has numbers 1 to 10 for kids to fill out the answers from the seeds. You can see more about it in action in the post below
Things to use with these printables
- printer
- copy paper
- white cardstock
- pencil
- laminator

Ways to use these pritnables
There are several ways you can use these watermelon matching printables. And I want to show you a few ways.
You can match the cards any way you want but it is fun to do it in different ways. I like to split the numbers up into groups 1 to 5 or 6 to 10. This can be depending on the level your student or child is learning.
One way to do the matching is to line up the watermelons at the top and then match the seed cards below.
Another way to do this is to match the seed cards on the watermelon.
You can use the melon cards for counting. If you are trying to do the matching but it is not working. Then switch it up and use the watermelon cards for counting. They can count out the rocks that match the number.
Then have them make two different groups of the rocks. And see that those different groups still add up to the number.
Now if you want to do the idea above but want to add more it then grab the Number Bond Mats: Addition. You can put the watermelon in the middle and do the different groups in the number bonds. This allows kids to write the equations as well. We used rocks for the counting and a dry erase marker on the equation part.
There is also a recording sheet with this printable. It has space for the two equations
Another idea not shown is that you could play a matching game with the seeds. You can match the two equations that add up to the same number.
