Watercolor & Oil Pastel Fireworks

Fireworks are always a big of many celebrations. We always love to watch the ones go off at the start of the New Year!
They are always so bright in the sky and full of color and wonder.

I love to look at them as they go off.

I’ve always loved the night before books. We read the The Night Before New Year’s before we did this activity. We talked about the fireworks and how pretty they are in the sky. And how much fun we had watching them every time.

This is a simple and fun activity that many different ages can do!

How we made our Watercolor & Oil Pastel Firewords

The first thing we did was take a pencil and lightly draw out where our fireworks were going to be on the watercolor paper. You could make any design or way you want.

If you want to do this with younger kids draw the fireworks on the paper for them.

Then we picked out our colors and traced the fireworks we did. It was fun to see all the bright and fun colors we used for the fireworks. This is great for working on fine motor. This has them tracing lines in a fun way.

Finally, we painted the paper with black, gray and dark colors over the fireworks. We also use a little of the glitter watercolors as well. that added a little sparkle to the painting. We use the colors differently around the paper. Maybe a gray in the center of the fireworks and darker at the edges. Or you can just color it all one color and have fun.
