Space Theme Division by 8 Matching
Space has so many great themes you can use with planets, stars, astronauts, and moon! And kids love when you can bring that themed to learning. And I know that some kids just love learning with themes.
Today we take space themes and work on learning matching with division by 8s. These free Space themed division matching cards are loads of fun and easy to use.
Working on division can be tricky. It is about how many groups you can make of a number. I know that concept is not always easy to do. It can be difficult for kids to understand.
This set of matching cards works on seeing the groups and the equations together. It is a fun hands-on way to look at making groups of a number.
There are three types of cards. You have the groups of 8, the equations, and the answer to the equation.
I recommend printing on cardstock and laminating the cards. It helps them to last longer.
The set has a matching recording sheet. This is an easy way to see if kids match up the card correctly.

Ways to use the Space Themed Division Matching Cards
There are many ways to set up and use these cards. I want to show you a few ways to match the cards.
You can start by just matching the groups and the numbers. This will show you how many groups of 8s are on each card. You could the groups on the card and then match it to the number.
You can also match the equations to the answer. This is great for kids that need a hands-on thing to help with remembering math.
You can also match the groups of card to the equation. You can skip counting by 8s to see if the card matching. You point to each of the groups as you go up by numbers.
I love to make this a big matching game. It is fun to see how much they match it all up. I group all the cards together and have them match away.
You can see here how they matched up the three cards together. You can have them say the equation and answer to help with memory learning.
After they have matched the cards you can have them record their matches on the worksheet. This is a great way to check on how they are doing.
One other idea not shown but works great is to put the set of cards on rings. This allows you to flip through the cards to find matches and saves on space as well! I have done this with several different activities.
