What is a digraph?
A digraph is two letters together that make one sound. Digraphs can be made up of vowels or consonants.
Some examples of consonant digraphs would be ch, sh, and th.
Today’s printables only deals with the consonant digraphs.
You are going to find 11 consonant digraphs: ch-, -ch, -ck, kn-, ph, qu-, sh-, -sh, th-, -th, & wh-.
The puzzles come with three pieces: The picture, the digraph, and the matching word.

Ways to use the Snowman Digraph Matching Puzzles
You can always start out however you want with the puzzle pieces. I like to start with just a few puzzles for them to put together.
I always start by matching the three puzzle pieces. I will start with ones that are different. I like to start with sh, ch, th, and wh digraphs. I start with the beginning sound, not the ending sound.
I sort the puzzles into three areas. You can see how it do that below. Then I mix up each of the rows so they can make the cards
After they are done the puzzles look like this.
You can also have them match the picture and the digraph word as an option. They can say the word and see the word and picture together.
You can also just work on the ending digraph puzzles. It is fun to mix up what they are working on.
If you want to do to a follow-up step you can have them write the digraph words out. We used the Kids Winter Activities Writing Paper to write the words on.
If you want more digraphs this winter you can check out the Winter Digraph Sorting Set! It has sorting mats, two recording sheets, and a cut and paste activity you can do!
