What is Cookie Cutter Painting?
Painting with a cookie cutter is an easy craft for kids to do. This gives a template, and the results are loads of fun.
Shark Watercolor Painting with Cookie Cutters
Shark watercolor painting is painting inside shark cookie cutters with watercolor paints. A fun painting and fine motor activity for kids.
One of my favorite parts about cookie cutter painting is that they work on fine motor and creative without really knowing it. I am always needing to find a way for my oldest to get more fine motor activities in without her knowing it. She does not like me taking pictures of her for the blog much anymore but she will do the projects. The cookie cutter painting is one of her favorites to do and I don’t have to even bribe her to do them.
Book to Read with the Shark Watercolor Painting
The Ultimate Book of Sharks is another great shark book you could read. You can find out where they live, what they eat, and more. Plus, details about the different types of sharks.
This shark painting would also go great in a sharks unit study.

How we made the Shark Watercolor Painting
You can see the steps below that we used to make the shark watercolor painting.
Place the Shark Cookie Cutter on the Watercolor Paper
You want to place the shark cookie cutter on the watercolor paper. You can hold on to the cookie cutter on the sides, but we have found the top words best.
Holding the shark in place is great fine motor work for the fingers.
Hold the Shark Cookie Cutter and Paint Inside
Then while holding the cookie cutter you use the watercolor paints to paint inside the shark cookie cutter.
We used blues, blacks, browns and grays for the colors of our sharks. But really ou could do any color of shark kid want. This can be their shark painting so let them be creative about it.
Look the the Shark on the Paper
You can see how the shark turns out on the paper. It does not matter it is looks perfect but the shark still turns out great for a painting.
If you have older kids they can do touch ups on the shark to fill in areas that might not have got painted.
Keep Painting Sharks
After you have your first shark painting done. You will want to add more on to the paper. And let kids decide how many sharks is enough.
For older kids you can have them flip the shark over and have sharks swimming in two directions. But remember this is their painting and the sharks can be any direction they want!
