Hands-On Learning With Shark Ten Frames 1 to 10
Kids start working on counting and numbers at an early age. And you can use ten frames as a base for counting and working up to math.
I love the ten frame cards because they are a flexible math tool that you can use to help kids learn in a fun way. Plus these shark ten frame cards are great for the summer and kids that love the ocean.
I always get asked for more ten frames cards and they are always fun to make.
This print is part of our fun Shark Week.
This is a great addition to the ocean printables on the site.
What is a ten frame?
A ten frame is 2 by 5 rectangle box that is used to add up to ten. You can find a number equal to or less than ten with them.
And when you use ten frame cards. It gives you a number between 1 to 10 for kids to fill in that number.
The shark ten frames come with numbers 1 to 10 for kids to fill on the ten frames.
There are ten frame cards that are blank and have the number. You can see an example below. I recommend printing on cardstock and laminating the cards. It helps them last longer.
The second set of cards have the ten frame filled out. They have shark fins that match the number on the card. These cards are great for kids that are just starting to use ten frames.

Ways to use the Shark Ten Frame Cards
If you are just starting out with ten frames one way I like to use them is to cover the ten frames that have the shark fins with clear glass gems. This works on one to one correspondence. You cover just the fins on the cards with the gems. I like the glass gems because you can see the fins underneath.
For the ten frame cards that don’t have shark fins you can use hands-on items to fill the cards out. I like the unifix cubes for this. We reuse the unfix cubes a lot. Plus they come in sets of tens that works great for the ten cards.
You can also use mini erasers on them. We find loads of seasonal ones at Target. We got these shark erasers there. You can have loads of fun using them.
If you want to start using the ten frame cards to work on addition you can do it two easy ways with clear glass gems and unfix cubes.
You can use the glass gems on the cards with the shark frames. You can use clear glass gems and light blue glass gems. You can see how we used the two glass gems to cover the ten frame card. And you can talk about how five plus five equals ten.
If you have used the ten frame cards for addition below you can give them a blank ten frame and have them fill it out with two different colors of unifix cubes. I like to give them the same number of the cubes that matches the cards. This cards is an eight so they have eight of each color.
