Scarecrow Adding Doubles Mini Set

Sometimes one small idea becomes a bigger idea. And that is what happened with this mini free Scarecrow Adding Doubles printables. I had one request and idea and it went from there.

Someone was looking for a fun way to work on doubles that kids could enjoy working on. I love that this pack came together to meet that need. Plus gives another fun fall printable that kids can learn with.

There are three parts to this pack. You have the matching cards, roll & cover sheets and the hands-on math sheet. All of which work great for working on adding doubles. Plus this is a great set to add into the fall printables.

The matching cards are a crow with an adding double like 1+1 and a scarecrow card with the answer on the hat. You have adding doubles from 1 to 10. I recommend laminating these cards to help them last longer.

There are two roll and cover mats that are black and white. These are made for a one time use but can be used multiple times.

The last part is a hands-on mat for working adding doubles. It has a number line and addition equation on the mat. It also has matching numbers and crows to use with it. You can see we had this one in a sheet protector because it is one way we store the pages in a math binder.

How to Use the Scarecrow Adding Doubles Printable

You can play a simple matching game with the crows and the scarecrows. It is fun to do something different with addition. You can lay the cards out and have them match from each side. You can do these cards facing up or facing down. You can change it up to the level of the child you are working with.

The cards can also be used with both of the scarecrow mats. These can be no-prep mats or hands-on math. You can put the cards on a ring and have them cover the numbers as they find the equation. We used clear counters to cover the numbers.

There is also a matching spinner that you can use. You can use the spinners or a pencil and paper clip. We had fun using the dot markers with this printable.

Now don’t want to use the spinner you can use a ten sided dice. They just roll the dice, add two of the same number and then cover with unifix cubes or maybe dot the crow. These work great as math centers.

You could have both cards on a ring flip through and match them. This also makes them really easy to store and you are less likely to lose cards.

There is a really fun hands-on math you can use. This allows you to see the double number on the arms and the equations below. I have ours in a sheet protector. That allows me to put it in a binder for storage and pull out when we need it.

You can see how we used the number cards to build an equation at the bottom. There is also a number line for those that might need that extra help. We used unifix cubes on the mat. You can use anything you have on hand. There are also crows you can cut out and use.
