Rainbow Watercolor Pencil Painting
I love changing up the art projects that we do. And watercolors have been favorite for us! And today we have a fun watercolor pencil painting! It was a great way to change up using watercolor!
The Rainbow Watercolor Pencil Painting was loads of fun and a super-easy painting to do!

I love pairing a draft with a book. We read the book What Makes a Rainbow? Magic Ribbon Book. It is a great book to see the rainbow and colors.
What are watercolor pencils?
Watercolor pencils are colored pencils that are water soluble. This means that after you color you can add water and move the color around or blend the colors.
You can use the dry and then paint. You can put watercolor and the color with a pencil. There are many ways to use them.
Things we used to make Rainbow Watercolor Pencil Painting
- watercolor paper
- watercolor colored pencils
- brush
- bowl with water
How we did our Rainbow Watercolor Pencil Painting
We started off by painting our rainbow on the watercolor paper. I let them decide how much of each color and how big. We started with red on the top.
You can see that we used a lot of the area paper for the rainbow. I suggested they could overlap some of the colors as they did their rainbows. You can see that we colored lightly with the pencil.
Then we colored the sky blue around the rainbow. We made sure to lightly color the whole paper.
Next is the fun part you add water to the coloring. You can see how quickly the color starts to mix.
It is amazing to watch the color pop out on the paper. The watercolor pencils make this so much fun to do!
After we finished painting the rainbow we painted our sky. It was so neat to see the whole picture come together.
