Pumpkin Counting In Kinetic Sand
We are always looking for new ways to put sensory and counting together. This is a fun activity that provided fun sensory, fine motor and counting. We stamped numbers and counted pumpkins to match.
This activity could easy be switched up for non-seasonal items in the sand. It is fun and easy to set up as well.
What you need for this activity: sand, number stamps and plastic pumpkins (We got ours are Michaels).
First thing we did was use the number stamps put push the number into the sand then we watched up that many pumpkins next to the number.
One nice part about using the sand is that use get to use pressure pushing in the pumpkins and the number stamps. It creates a sensory activity. This is a look at our 1 to 10 counting. It is nice to review for the numbers
After we have finished I have her pick up the pumpkins by the tiny stem to get some fine motor in. She also counts the pumpkins as she picks them up.
We compared the groups of 2 that we had on the sand try. This was a fun way of counting by 2s. She picked out 4, 6 and 8 that she liked the sets of 2. This is a fun way to introduce skip counting early.
Once you are all done with this activity don’t forget you can mess it up and start all over! I love the sand!
