Cookie cutter painting is where you use a cookie cutter and paint inside the cookie cutter or use the cookie cutter to stamp paints on the page.
Pumpkin Cookie Cutter Painting
For this pumpkin cookie cutter painting, we painted inside the cookie cutters with watercolors. We used two sizes of pumpkins for our paintings.
A great book to read would be Too Many Pumpkins.
What we used to make the Pumpkin Watercolor Painting
How we made the Pumpkin Watercolor Painting
Youc an see the steps below that we used to make our watercolor pumpkin paintings.
Holding the Pumpkin Cookie Cutter
You can hold the pumpkin cookie cutter on the sides or on the top. I have found that holding on the top works best to hold it in place.
And it is easier for younger kids.
Paint Inside the Pumpkin Cookie Cutter
Then you paint inside the pumpkin. This is a great fine motor activity to do with kids. They need to fill in the whole area of the cookie cutter.
You can use water to spread the color or get more paint as you go. You can paint the stem a different color. This is about what they want to paint the pumpkin and let them be creative.
Life Up the Pumpkin Cookie Cutter
After you finish painting you lift up the cookie cutter and can see the fun pumpkin shape. Super simple, and with watercolor, it can dry pretty fast as well.
Then Paint Another Pumpkin
Then you work on painting you next pumpkin. You follow the steps as above. You can do it next one anywhere on the paper and you can be flexible about how many they paint.
Paint More Pumpkins
Then keep adding pumpkins until you have filled your paper or as many as they want to paint. It is great to see the colors and the sizes they pick for each of their paintings.
And pumpkins can over lap as well.
