Penguin Book to Read
We have so many favorite penguin books. But one that we have used over the years is Penguins! by Gail Gibbons. She writes amazing non-fiction books for kids. I always look to see if she has a book when we are studying a theme.
In the book, we love seeing the different penguins and how they live. Each one has a different life that they lead. I love that they live on the ice and watching them walk.

How to Make the Penguin Water Color Painting
Here are all the steps you need to make this penguin painting.
Paint the Sky Blue
We started by painting with just water the area we wanted the sky to be. We used a 3/4 inch brush to put the water on faster. We just use clear water to do this.
Now it is loads of fun to watch the color spread through the water. We used a mixture of blue colors from our watercolors. we did fun lines and blended the colors together.
Then we dotted the sky with a paper towels. This did two things it dries up some of the extra water and adds some texture to the color in the sky.
Paint the Penguin
Then you take the penguin cookie cutter and place it on the page. You can place it anywhere you want. We decided to put two on our page, but you don’t have to limit it to that number. You hold the cookie cutter down and paint inside the cookie cutter.
If you don’t think they can do that. You can trace the cookie cutter and make a template. You can see how we did it here for a polar bear.
For the final touches, we added a white tummy, white eye and orange to the beak. We used paints and q-tips to apply it. Since the watercolor might still be slightly damp we just dotted the areas.
