We are having a great time reading the Magic Tree House books. It is always fun to do activities for them. We went with an old favorite at our house gross motor!

This is a fun way to get moving while reading. And this book had loads of movements in it. So have some fun with the new ninja themed gross motor cards.

We have reached the fifth book in the Magic Tree House Series. It is Night of the Ninjas (Magic Tree House, No. 5).

I love that this book focuses on certain types of movements and activities. These are great for kids to act out. There is a lot of activities that the kids do in the books. It makes doing some gross motor afterward fun.

What you need for the Ninja Themed Gross Motor:

The Ninja Movement Cards

There are 6 fun cards to use. Each has a different type of movement on them. Several of the ideas are from the book. It has climbing, being a rock, tiptoeing, wading the stream, jump on rocks across the stream and being quick and quiet like a mouse.

All fun idea that can get kids moving. These are small enough they could fit in a cube dice, but we are using them on a ring this time. I also printed them on cardstock to help the cards last longer.

How to do the Ninja Gross Motor Movments

There are several movements from the book we use plus we made up two ninja movements we wanted to do. These are fun activities that you can do with or without the book.

Gross motor should be fun. Below you can see how we did each of the movements on the cards.

Climb the hill: You pretend to climb up the hill or up the rope on the treehouse.

Wade the stream: you pretend to wade through a fast stream.

Be still like a rock: You be small and still as you can be.

Be quick and quiet like a mouse: Be sneaky and quiet as you can while walking quickly around the room.

Jump on the rocks to cross the river: Jump on the spots to cross the river.

Tiptoe across the rope You tiptoe across the masking tape on the floor.

If you want to have fun but don’t like to use the cards. There is a fun rolling sheet. You can roll a die and then do the movement. It is a simple way to change up the activity you are doing.
