What is a CVC Word?
CVC words are words that have a consonant vowel consonant pattern. They have easy to sound out consonants with a short vowel sound in the middle. They don’t have any tricky blends or digraphs for kids to work around.
They are considered simple words that can be used with early readers to help sound out and decode words.
They have short vowel sounds that make sounding out words easy.
You are going to find words like dot. Kids can sound out the letters D O & T. And then blend the sounds together to make the word.
Some CVC words that kids learn are dog, mop, cop, dot, hot, etc.

Ways to Use the CVC Word Family Short O Coloring Page Printables
I will show you a few ways to use these cvc coloring pages. And remember, these are just options you can use.
Trace the CVC Short O Word
You can start off by tracing all the CVC short o words on the page. You can see we have a pencil and pencil grip. If kids are struggling with pencil control this is a great way to help them.
You can trace the CVC words and say the letters of the CVC words as you trace the words. So you can spell l o g and after you finish you say the word log.
Color the CVC Short O Picture
After you trace the CVC word, you then color the matching CVC picture for the word. You can see we colored the log on the page after you traced the word log. A great way to associate pictures with words as well.
Draw and Write your own CVC Word
A great part of this short o coloring page is that kids get to make their own CVC word. This has them think of similar words and write and draw them.
If they struggle with the words, you can give them the CVC bookmarks to helps find words.
Underline the CVC Word Family Ending in the Word
A great idea is to have kids underline the ending in the CVC short o words. You can see the vowel and the ending sound and see that those are the same for all the words on the page. It is great for kids to help kids see the ending sounds is a rhyming sound for each of the words.
Write the CVC Word Vowels and Consonants in a Different Color
You can also have kids trace the words and using different colors for the consonants and vowel in the word. You can see we used blue and red below. It is a great way to have kids see the different types of letters that make up the CVC words.
Reuse the CVC Coloring pages
You can also reuse these pages. You can use the tracing part of the page and put the page in a sheet protector. Then they can trace the word over and over. And if you have lots of colors of dry erase markers they can color the page as well.
