What is a CVC Word?
CVC words are words that have a consonant vowel consonant pattern. They have easy to sound out consonants with a short vowel sound in the middle. They don’t have any tricky blends or digraphs for kids to work around.
They are considered simple words that can be used with early readers to help sound out and decode words.
They have short vowel sounds that make sounding out words easy.
You are going to find words like sit. Kids can sound out the letters S I & T. And then blend the sounds together to make the word.
Some CVC words that kids learn are big, fin, zip, sit etc.

Ways to Use the CVC Word Family Short I Coloring Page Printables
I will show you a few ways to use these cvc coloring pages. And remember, these are just options you can use.
Trace the CVC Short I Word
You can sart by tracing the short I words on the CVC short i coloring worksheet. This is a great way to work on the short i words on each page. You can say the word after you trace the word. If you have someone struggling with letter sounds you could have them sound out each letter as they trace the letters.
You can see we use a pencil. If you have someone struggling with holding the pencil then use a pencil grip. They are great for helping with pencil control
Color the CVC Short I Picture
After you have all the short I words traced you can then color the pictures that match the word. Each of the pictures is close to the word to make it easier for kids to see that the picture and short i word go together.
Draw and Write your own CVC Word
Each of the CVC short i coloring pages has a space for kids to draw and write their own short i words. This is a great way to get kids thinking about more short I words they might know.
If they don’t have an idea you can use the CVC word family wall cards to get more short i word ideas.
Underline the CVC Word Family Ending in the Word
You can have kids undering the ending the short CVC short I words. It is a great way for kids to see that they end the same and have the same rhyming sounds.
You can see the “it” underlined at the end of the word.
Write the CVC Letters in a Different Color
You can write the CVC words using the blue for the consonants and then red for the vowels in the CVC words. This is another way to see the different between the two.
You can see the pig below and the p and g and blue and the i is red.
Reuse the CVC Coloring pages
You can also reuse these pages. You can use the tracing part of the page and put the page in a sheet protector. Then they can trace the word over and over. And if you have lots of colors of dry erase markers they can color the page as well.
