Fun to Make Model Magic Pumpkins
We have always loved the book the 5 Little Pumpkins. We have been having a themed week with it. It is always fun to read this book and just have fun laughing and enjoying the season.
My girls have always liked being creative with crafts. I do let them pick a lot of the crafts we do. I just tell them to use what we have. We took some materials we already had and made these Model Magic Pumpkins.
This is a great addition to the pumpkin crafts and Halloween crafts on the site.
Model Magic Pumpkins Craft
The Model Magic Pumpkins is a craft made with a foam ball, model magic, and pipe cleaners that is super fun for kids.
Pumpkin Books to Read with the Model Magic Pumpkins Craft
We have two books we love with the 5 pumpkins stories. One is Five Little Pumpkins and the other is Pete the Cat: Five Little Pumpkins. We recently did a 5 Pumpkins Watercolor that we had tons of fun with.
We decided to change up what we were doing and make pumpkins with model magic like we did with the planets.
What you need for the Model Magic Pumpkins Craft
- styrofoam ball – We used 5 inch
- model magic orange
- model magic black
- plastic or butter knife
- green pipe cleaners
How to Make the Model Magic Pumpkins
You will see the steps below to make the model magic pumpkins.
Push and Spread Model Magic around the Foam Ball
The first thing we did was press and push the orangemodel magic onto the foam ball. This is great for fine motor work! Kids have fun pushing and moving the model magic around.
Roll the Foam Ball on a Flat Surface
Next, we rolled out fully cover balls around on the table to even out some of the model magic.
Extra Model Magic on the Bottom
We added a little extra model magic on the bottom of our pumpkins to help them stand up easier.
Make Lines in the Model Magic
We added some character to our orange balls. We pushed in some lines on the ball to make it more like a pumpkin. We used plastic knives for this.
Make A Face To Put On the Pumpkin
Then we cut out the faces for our pumpkins. We used the black model magic for the face. You could use yellow for this as well. It was fun to see the faces come together on the pumpkins.
This Paper Plate Pumpkin Pail Craft has great face ideas you could make. You could print multiple pages and use it as a template for the face.
Pipe Cleaner for the Stem
Our final step was making the green stem for the pumpkin. We cut one of the pipe cleaners in half. Then folded it in half and then folded it again. Then we pushed it into the top of the pumpkin. We then took a second pipe cleaner and wrapped it around our finger. We then placed it on the first pipe cleaner we put into our pumpkin.
