A Fun Collection Of Book To Read: January 2019 Book Finds
We love picture books and still read them. Why do we? Because you can still learn from a picture book for years beyond preschool and kindergarten.
This months collection of books is from our library. We always visit the library at least once a week. Sometimes twice a week. I encourage my girls to read as much as they can with as much variety as they can.
I use reading as something they can earn activities during the summer or school breaks.
As always there are links to Amazon for each of the books to see samples and read more details about the books.
Mabel and Sam at Home is a story about a family that is moving and kids that are very creative with a box. I love the three adventures that they go on. I love how the book shows that you can have fun doing many different things in a box.
Horse Meets Dog is a very funny book about how horse thinks dog is a small horse and how dog things horse is a big dog. It is silly the things they try to get the other to do until they confront each other about it. I love how easy it was to read the book.
Counting on Katherine: How Katherine Johnson Saved Apollo 13 was a favorite of mine this month. We read the book Hidden figures but it is some times hard to younger kids to understand. I like how this book taught my youngest more about who she was and what she did.
Pass Go and Collect $200: The Real Story of How Monopoly Was Invented is the true story behind the game. We had a great time reading about how the woman who started it wanted to make a point about rising financial inequality. I love how you follow the story and how it all happened. Plus you see how the board came to be.
There’s a Hole in the Log on the Bottom of the Lake is a fun book about a song in pictures. It is so funny to read the song or sing the song while reading the book. Plus there are cute comments from all the animals in the pond as well! The back of the book has the song so you can play it on the piano.
Snail Mail is a cute story about how thing were before email and texts. But with a slight twist with the idea that snails delivered the mail. Plus the snails are so cute! We had fun reading the book and enjoying it after sending postcards this last summer.
