What is Hanukkah?
Hanukkah is the festival of the lights. It is a small Jewish holiday that has lasts eight nights of lighting candles. It is commemorating the rededication of the temple after it was desecrated by the Syrians.
It has fun activities with lighting the candles, dreidels, chocolate coins, and latkes to name a few parts of Hannukah.
The cookie cutters are a great way to introduce Hanukkah themed words to kids. You will find a dreidel, Menorah, candle, and star of David in the cookie cutters.
If you are looking for Hanukkah vocab flashcards with the words you can check out the Hanukkah Pack.
Sammy Spider’s First Hanukkah is a great book to go with this Hanukkah painting activity. You can see many parts of the cookie cutters in the story.

How we made the Hanukkah Cookie Cutter Watercolor Painting
You are going to see the steps we use with cookie cutter painting below. This is a flexible art project so you can make any changes you want. You can also let kids be as creative as they want!
Hold the Hanukkah Cookie Cutter in Place
First, you pick a Hanukkah cookie cutter. You can see the dreidel one below. You want to make sure you are holding the edges of the cookie cutter firm and leave the top open.
Watercolor Paint inside the Hanukkah Cookie Cutter
Then you paint inside the cookie cutter. You can paint any way you want and mix up the colors. We used blue and yellow for our paintings but kids could use any color.
Lift up the Hanukkah Cookie Cutter
After you are doing you carefully lift up the cookie cutter to see the painting. You can see the dreidel below.
Then Repeat The Painting Again
Then you move on and paint a new cookie cutter or the same cookie cutter. You might want to rinse off the cookie cutters between colors.
Let Older Kids be Creative
You don’t have to limit this to younger kids to do the painting. Older kids can have just as much fun as younger ones. You can see how they can do different colors in the cookie cutters and mix and blend colors as well!
After you are done make sure to clean the cookie cutters right away to get off all the watercolors from them! It also helps them not to rust.
