Hanukkah Pattern Block Fun – Hands-On Activity
Last night was the first night of Hanukkah. We had a ton of fun. I had a last minute Hanukkah challenge for the girls to be creative with pattern blocks. Kids love having activities that are last minute with little to no prep involved. This is one of those activities for Hanukkah. It takes less and 2 minutes to put together!
We read a lot of Hanukkah books during Hanukkah. We have done of fun with it! We read the The Story of Hanukkah. It is one of the favorite books for use to read. It tells the story really well. The girls wanted to do something fun and creative. I pulled out the pattern blocks and told them to make some Hanukkah themes with them.
What you need: small Menorah, dreidle and some pattern blocks.
The first challenge was to make a menorah from the blocks. I did not give them a pattern or suggest what to use. I just told them to make it and waited to see what they would come up with. All three worked together to make their menorah. It made them think about what they wanted and who thought what was best. It also meant working together on a project. They also pulled out the mini menorah put pattern blocks on for the candles and flames.
The next challenge was to make a dreidle. Each had their own idea and went right to work on them. Will it be big or small? This was fun to see what they created!
The last challenge was to make the Hebrew letters on the dreidles. They did this really quick and I did not get pitcures of them all but made them think about the letter shapes for: shin, hay, gimel and nun.
Are you doing anything fun for Hanukkah this year?

Oh wha a great idea! Wish I had seen this before we let out for break yesterday – we have SO MANY pattern blocks in my classroom. This would have been perfect! Well, pinned twice for next year, once under stuff to do in class & once under holiday stuff! 🙂
Thanks for pinning it! We had tons of fun doing it.
