Gross Motor: Jumping with Two Feet!
There are loads of fun jumping activities that you can do. We always have fun doing them.
I know we are always looking for big motor movements to burn off energy and these are fun and easy to do movements for kids to do.
You can do several types of jumps to change things up.
I love gross motor because it is a way to break up the day or help get the body moving. It is important to move around and change things. It can help you have a better attitude for the day.
Plus just moving around is great for you.
I always review the movements before we do activities. All of these activities from the Gross Motor Printable List.
We are going to do four types of movements: jumping up, jumping forward, jumping side to side, and jumping with trying to touch toes.
Jumping Straight Up
I know that jumping is jump and uses up loads of energy. Jumping straight up in the air is a great way to use the bigger muscles in the legs. You can have them do it in several ways. They can up and keep straight legs. Another way is to jump and spread legs and arms out. You can even jump and just pull up your knees.
All of them are easy to do. And all you are doing is jumping straight up with a small twist.
Jumping Foward
Jumping forward is a single move gross motor but you move in a single direction. You jump from one point to another moving only forward.
You can have kids start at one point and jump as far as they can. You can see how far up they can jump with how far they land from the starting point.
While jumping forward you can keep track of how many jumps it takes to cross a room or an area outside.
Jumping from Side to Side
Jumping side to side is loads of fun because you use explosive force to move the body. This is a great activity to get the wiggles out.
You have them start at one side and jump to the other side. They immediately jump to the other side. You repeat this over and over. You can have them count how many jumps you want them to just or set a timer while they jump.
You could also change this to front and back jumping.
Jumping & Touching Toes
This jump is a little harder to do but it is fun to see kids try and touch their toes. Plus it gets them thinking about where their body is when they jump.
They can do short jumps in the air and try to touch their goes. If they can’t do their toes have them touch their knees. It is about changing up the movement and making it fun!
