Gross Motor Tape Lines Gross Motor Dice
We are looking forward to spring but still have some times where we can’t get outside and need to get the wiggles out. We have long loved having tape lines on the floor. They are a fun way to get kids working on coordination plus an easy way to do gross motor in a tight spot.
Today I have added a gross motor dice for tape lines and ways change up how you use them.
One wonderful thing about these dice is that you can do tape lines during the winter or chalk lines outside during the summer. During the winter when we are stuck inside we do a lot of tape lines.
First, you need three types of lines for this dice: a zig-zag line, a straight line, and a curved line. I use masking tape to make my lines. I keep a set of tape to do this.
The line dice matches up to the tape lines you saw above. The dice have two of each of the lines.
There are some movement suggestions dice as well. It has: walk, tiptoe, heel to toe, hop, backward, and high knees.
We use the cube dice because they allow us to throw the dice around and they don’t hurt much when they fall or hit something. Plus the cards last a lot longer in the dice.
I printed the cards on color cardstock. This helps the cards last when we take them in and out of the dice. We like to switch the dice out a lot.
How we use these gross motor dice
First, we start off by just rolling the line dice and kid walk the line they get. This allows kids to do at the same time because they might not get the same line.
Next, you add in the movements you do on the lines.
Walk: You just walk down the line.
Hiptoe: You walk the whole line on your tiptoes.
Heel to toe: You put your foot down and then place your heel just in front of your toes and walk the line.
Hop: You hop down the line. You could add the hopping die to see what hopping movement you could do.
Backward: You walk the line backward and have them look over their shoulder to do see where they place their feet.
High Knees: You walk down the line doing as high of knees as you can. It could also be called Marching down the line.
One reason we love the cube dice is that we can throw them in the air and have fun! My girls love doing this! They last longer that just the folded paper.
Now if you want to have loads of fun. Add in another for the movements. You could do animal walking on the line. Or really any of the gross motor dice sets that I have! There are some suggestions below:
