Two Person Gross Motor Movements with Balls
Gross motor is always loads of fun to do. I love changing up our movements and what we do.
Two-person ball gross motor movements are a great gross motor activity to work on coordination. Two people have to work together to do the gross motor activities.
Plus you can have loads of fun doing them.
This is a great addition to the gross motor activities on the site.
What is gross motor?
Gross motor are skills that involve the big muscles of the body like arms, legs, and body.
Most times it involves moving the whole body in some way.
Today’s gross motor activity involved moving the body and using balls with the gross motor movements.
We used a 7 inch ball for this gross motor activity.
Three Gross Motor Activities with Balls
There are three movements I’m going to show. Roll the ball, pass the ball side to side and pass the ball over and through. These are simple and easy to do.
Roll the Ball Back and Forth
A simple activity where you have kids touch their feet and have their legs out wide. Then they roll the ball back and forth between each other.
If you are just starting out then have them push the ball back to the other person using two hands.
If you are up for a challenge then try passing the ball back and forth using one hand at a time.
Another activity is to roll the ball back and forth as fast as you can. So you don’t want it on your side to long.
Passing the Ball Side the Side
You have the kids stand back and back. They are going to pass the ball around from side to side. They will have to pick which direction they start first.
They should be passing the ball round about waist level.
After they have the rhythm of passing the ball one way have them switch directions. By switching directions you use all the muscles.
Passing the Ball Over and Under
The next movement can be tricky, but the idea is that you pass the ball over the top of the head and through the legs. They will need help with space to make sure they can do both movements.
You start by passing the ball over the head. This will take coordination on both parties to make it happen. They have to make sure the other person has the ball.
Next, you pass the ball between the legs. Like the side to side ball movement, you want to make sure you change the direction of the ball.
There are simple and easy to do. Also check out the one person ball movements!
