Fun Hands-On Gingerbread Rhyming CVC Clip Cards

I love clip cards and we have done a few other the years. I love having early learning to read activities as well. We are always working on rhyming skills.

CVC word family words are one of the most basic to start with. There are so many great CVC words that you can use. Today I have a fun CVC clip card center with a gingerbread theme for kids to use. It is loads of fun to change up how we learn.

The Gingerbread Rhyming CVC Clip Cards is a great addition to the gingerbread printables and the CVC printables on the site.

What are CVC words?

CVC words are words that have a consonant vowel consonant pattern. They have easy to sound out consonants with a short vowel sound in the middle. They don’t have any tricky blends or digraphs for kids to work around.

They are considered simple words that can be used with early readers to help sound out and decode words.

They have short vowel sounds that make sounding out words easy.

You are going to find words like cat. Kids can sound out the letters C A & T. And then blend the sounds together to make the word.

Some CVC words that kids learn are bug, map, sat, dog, pot, pan, etc.

Gingerbread Rhyming CVC Clip Card Printables

There are 31 cards in the CVC clip card printables. They all have numbers 1 to 8 on them. That is almost 4 complete sets of cards. Each of the cards has different CVC ending and rhyming matching. This makes it perfect to mix up for your learning center. I recommend laminating the cards if you are going to use them over and over.

There is a recording sheet you can use with the cards. The page gives you two words to write for each card. There is a space for what is on the gingerbread man and what you clipped.

How to use the Gingerbread CVC Rhyming Clip Card Printables

The first way to use these is to just clip the cards. You can ignore the number and just have fun clipping all 31 cards. We use clothespins and paper clips for the clipping a lot of the time. This time we use clothespins.

Another way is to put the cards on a ring and then make it a learning center for kids that they can record. You pick 8 of the cards there are 3 or 4 cards for each number and then have them record the words.

Simple and easy to mix up because you can changes this so many different ways. The recording sheet is fun because you can make a sheet that will work for what you are teaching.
