Fun Fine Motor Craft: Washi Tape Rainbow Wreaths

Spring is coming and one of our favorite themes has always been rainbows. Plus this is one that also works for St. Patrick’s Day!

I follow my girls lead on a lot of projects that we do. When they ask if we can do a craft we pull out the supplies and see if we can do it! These washi tape rainbow wreaths are just one of those types of projects.

The craft is a fun way to work on fine motor skills while having fun.

The washi tape wreath is a great open-ended project that kids can work on. There are so many fun ways to do this. Plus with a theme like rainbows, it is always fun.

We love to team up books with our crafts. We read There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover!. The last thing that happens is a rainbow. It was where they suggested they wanted to do some rainbow activities.

What you need for this paper plate wreath:

How to make the Wreath

We had two colors for each of the 6 colors we used. We all got to pick and choose how we were going to do our rainbows. Plus since we had one two of each color we also had to do lots of sharing. Below you can see an example of what my youngest did for her pattern. We did red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple for the colors.

It was simple to do. You just put the washi tape around the plate. You made sure the tape was long enough so you could wrap it around to the back of the paper plate. My girls and I made sure it was long on the back so it would not come up taped.

What I like about this is that you just need the washi tape if that is all you want to do. My girls wanted something fun in the center. I pulled out some scrapbooking paper that looks like the sky and we cut out the circles to be big enough to color the center.

We started with gluing them on but ended up taping it on instead.
