They are considered simple words that can be used with early readers to help sound out and decode words.
They have short vowel sounds that make sounding out words easy.
You are going to find words like cat. Kids can sound out the letters C A & T. And then blend the sounds together to make the word.
Some CVC words that kids learn are map, pot, sat, dog, hen, pan, etc.

You have kids with pictures of the CVC word. Each CVC picture matches words on the pool. You have 12 different CVC words.
You will find the following CVC words: mop, sun, log, hug, pin, rug, bed, pen, dig, sit, can, and bag.
Decoding the Word Worksheet
You have a worksheet to record the CVC words. It has space for writing all 12 words. You can use the worksheet as part of a CVC learning center.

Preparing the Swimming CVC Decode the Word Printable

You can add the decoding key for the pictures if kids are just starting on CVC words. Or leave it for the end for kids to see if they got the letter correct.
You could have kids tell you the words for the pictures before they start the activity.
Matching the Kids to the Pools
You can see how easy it is to match the kids to the pools. The kids have different words for each pool. And it is fun to see kids make the matching kids to the pool.
You can have kids say the beginning sounds of each of the pictures. This allows kids to work on their letter sound and the sounds to making the CVC word.
You can have kids tell you the sounds for each for the pictures and say the letter sounds and then blend the letters to make words.
Matching Letters to the Pictures on the Pool Center
Another fun center idea is to add the lacing letters to the activity.
You want a full set of the letters. we have ours sorted by color. You have a stack of the pools, the letters, decoding chart and the kids.

You can see below we used the lacing letters to match the beginning sound of the pictures. Then we matched the correct kids with picture to the pool and the letters.
This is a great idea for kids who might be great at writing but you want them to see the letters. Using the letters let them see the letter for the sound and still be able to match the word.
You could use the lacing letters before you write the word as well to make sure you have the right letters for the CVC word.
Using the CVC Recording Sheet
The CVC recording sheet has numbers 1 to 12 and each of the pools have number to match the worksheet. You can record the CVC words for each of the pools on the worksheet. A great way to see if kids are decoding the words correctly in a learning center.
