First off, CVC words are words that have a consonant vowel consonant pattern. They have easy to sound out consonants with a short vowel sound in the middle.
CVC ending sound is when you work on the final consonant sound of the CVC word.
So the ending sound of cat would be a t sound.

Setting up a Polar Bear Ending CVC Word Sound Sorting Activity
You can see the polar bears with fishing poles at the top. Then you have a stack of the CVC pictures with the fish.
Sorting the Fish to the Correct Ending Sound
You pick a fish and then say the word. Then you sort the fish to the correct polar bear for the ending sound.
You see that the fish with pig has been sorted to the bear with the letter g.
After you sort all the fish, there will be 4 fish for each polar bear. This is also a good way to have kids tell you how many fish are on each polar bear.
You could also have them say all the words for each polar bear after they are sorted.
Writing CVC Words on the Fish
You can also sort the fish and then record the fish CVC words on the worksheet. You can see that we pulled the same fish with pig, and wrote pig in the correct column under -g.
This is a great way to work on writing out the words on each of the fish.
You can do this with or without the polar bears sorting.
You can see that there is space for all 12 fish to record. You can have them read the words to you after they are done.
Fun Fish Writing Center Idea
If you want to do a fun writing center, you could print the fish out and the worksheet. The fish line up for each column on the worksheet. They can write the column of fish in the correct order under the correct column.
This is a great way to know these all end with the same letter and figure out the consonant and vowel for the words.
