Time is the amount of time that has passed between the start and the end of an event.
So that would be you started at 1 o’clock and one hour passes, and it is 2 o’clock.

You have two different cards to match. One is a mitten with a clock with hands that matches the mitten with a question about a start time and how much time passes.
Mitten Telling Time Recording Sheet
You have a recording sheet to write the time for all the mittens. You can draw the starting time and the ending time on the clocks. There is space for all 12 matches in the elapsed time set.

Ways to Use the Mitten Elapsed Telling Time Matching Printable
You will see a few ways to use these mitten telling time matching cards. These are just a few ways to use them.
And remember, this is about learning about having a start time and finding the ending time that was given. It is a fun way to change up how you learn about telling time.
Setitng up the Matching Game
You start by setting up a game for kids. If this is the first time playing, you might want to start with four cards and work up to all 12 cards.
You have kids pick a mitten on the left and read the information on the card. Then they figure out what cards on the other mitten has the correct time they need for the question. Then they match the cards.
Recoring the Telling Time Start and End
You have a great recording sheet to use with kids. You can see we two cards that are a match. You can draw the start time on the clock and then the ending time that they matched on the clock.
This helps you see if they did the elapsed time correctly.
Matching Telling Time Cards on Rings
You can make this a matching game on rings. You can put all 12 cards on rings and then read the questions on one mitten and then find the answer on the next mitten.
You can put all the cards on or just a few. This also makes a great learning center for telling time as well and pairs up nicely with the telling time recording sheet.
Using Matching Telling Time Cards with the Telling Time Help Mat
If you need extra help with the time, you can use the telling time help mat. It is a great resource for kids to use. The telling time help mats have clock versions with help for starting and ending times.
You can use the mat that works best for you.
Draw the Starting Time on the Clock
First, you want to read the mitten and draw the time on the clock. You can use playdough to make the time as well.
You can see we filled out the time from the card of 4:50 and drew the hands on the clock.
Skip Count by 5’s to Figure out the Time
Next, you want to do a skip counting by fives around the clock to find the next time. You can see we draw around the outside of the clock marking the 5 minutes.
We did this until we reached 20 minutes on the clock. You can see that we could do the outside of the clock or on the number line. You could use the section clock with the write in for the number line.
Then we filled out the ending time for the matching clock.
