Preparing the Addition Clip cards

You are going to want to print the addition clip cards on cardstock and laminate them. This will help them last up to repeated use.

If you are only using them one time then just print them on cardstock and they will be okay.

Setting up the Little Red Hen Addition Clip Card Center

You can see below a simple set up for the addition clip cards. You want to have enough clothespin to clip the side answer and the number line. You can skip the number line if that does not work for you.

This is a super simple set up and you could put the clothespins in a container as well.

We have also use the addition bookmarks with the cards as well.

Clipping the Addition Cards

You can see below the little red hen addition clip cards with the answer the the number line clipped. This is a great way to make sure they see the answer number and where the answer falls on the number line.

You can change up the clothespins and use paperclips as well. The paperclips can help kids see the numbers easier.

You are going to count up the numbers on the left side of the + and then you count the ones on the right side of the plus mark. Then you can use the number line to find the first number and the count on on the number line to get the answer. Then you clip the answer on the right side of the cards as well as the number on the number line.

Covering with Glass Gems the Addition Answers

You can also use glass gems on the clip cards. The glass gems are easy to slide up and down the number line. You will find that you can see through the glass gems onto the clip cards.

This is great for kids who might not be able to use the clothespins for the clipping.

Using the Clip Cards with the Addition Number Bond Mats

These clip cards also work great with the addition number number bond mats. You have space for two areas to build the numbers and then bring them together for the addition.

You count and place the same number of glass gems in each circles for the different sides of the equations.

You can also see that we wrote how many glass gems are in each circle in the equation.

Then you slide all the glass gems together to get the answer. You can see that the 3 and the 2 make 5 glass gems. You can then write the answer on the mat and then cover or clip the answer on the addition clip cards.
