What is Skip Counting by 3?
Skip counting is working on adding the same number over and over. You have a pattern of adding or counting.
So if you skip counting by 3s, you have a pattern like 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, and so forth. These patterns can be repeated for many numbers.
Most often you skip count at least 12 times but you can skip counting more.

You can start building the puzzle on the mat. One reason to use the mat is that puzzle pieces will stay in place. But you don’t have to use the mat if you don’t want to.

After the puzzle is made have them skip count by 3 by pointing to the puzzle pieces.
You can skip count forward and then skip count backward. Each time you use the skip counting puzzles find different ways to use them.
You can puzzle out a puzzle piece and ask them what number is missing. You could do just one piece or three or four pieces.

Another way to use the puzzle mat is to put the puzzle on the mat and then have them unmix the puzzle and put them in the right order.
