What are CVC words?
CVC words are words that have a consonant vowel consonant pattern. They have easy to sound out consonants with a short vowel sound in the middle. They don’t have any tricky blends or digraphs for kids to work around.
They are considered simple words that can be used with early readers to help sound out and decode words. CVC words most often have short vowel words.
You are going to find words like bag. Kids can sound out the letters B A & G. And then blend the sounds together to make the word.
Some CVC words that kids learn are bug, leg, log, tag, and pig.

You have five sorting mats. They have a picture on the lily pad. You have a for the following ending: -ag word, -eg words, -ig word, -og word, and -ug word. Each of these pictures ends with a g sound.

Setting up the CVC Vowel Sorting Activity
You can see a simple setup of the words and the sorting mats. There are two frogs for each of the mats. The cards are printed on cardstock. If you plan to use these cards a lot then we recommend laminating them.
Matching the CVC words to the Picture the Rhymes
You can see one of the matches of the words. You can say the words after you match them. That bag, rag, and tag all rhyme. That they have the same vowel sounds and ending letter.
Put the Frogs with CVC Words on Rings
You could also put the frog on rings. This would be an easy way to flip through the two rings to find the matching words for each picture.
You can see my favorite hole punch as well. This is great for punching lots of papers at the same time and is super easy to use.
Make a CVC word Writing Center
You can also take those Frogs with CVC words on them and use it for a CVC word writing center. You can flip through the frog words and write them in the correct row. Then for the final word they can write their own rhyming word.
