A ten frame is 2 by 5 rectangle box that is used to add up to ten. You can find a number equal to or less than ten with them.

And when you use ten frame cards. It gives you a number between 1 to 10 for kids to fill in that number.

Ways to Use the Firefighter Ten Frames Printables

You will see a few ways I like to use these ten frame cards. I like having ways to adapt and change how we use something.

Cover and Count the Ten Frames

If you are working on one to one correspondence that this activity is great. You print off the firefighter ten frame cards that have the hydrants that match the number.

Then you use clear glass gems to cover the hydrants and count up to that number. You can still see the hydrants and how easy it is to cover the numbers.

Fill the Ten Frame to Match the Number

If you are looking for more of a challenge then use the blank ten frames. Then you give them something to use to counting and fill in the ten frame.

You can see we used red acrylic rocks. They work great for this activity for kids.

If you want you can use the filled in ten frame cards as a self-check to see if they did the counting right.

Use Two Colors to Make the Number

You can also use these for a little bit of math. You can see we used two colors of unfix cubes. Then we matched the number with two different colors.

You can have kids mixed them up and see how they did. If kids are just starting out with this type of math activity give them a filled in card and have them use different mixed of the cubes.

If they hare done this before you can give them the blank cards to use.
