Number and counting are skills that kids learn early in PreK and kindergarten. One skill they learn is number subitizing. This is where you look and just know the number.
This can be done with ten frames, tally marks, dominos, and dice. These are just a few of the ways to work on number subitizing. And you will find all four in this bear number matching printable.
You can work on matching one item to the number or all four items.

What is Subitizing?
Subitizing is the ability to recognize a small group of objects without counting. This would be with dots, dice, and tally marks as examples of groups of objects. Subitizing is part of the development of number sense.
Bear Subitizing Number Sorting Printable
Today’s number printable works on learning to match groups of objects to the correct number. You will find bears to match a numbered cave.
You will find tally marks, ten frames, dominos, and dice for the bears to match the number on the cave.
I recommend printing on cardstock and laminating so you can use these over and over.
Cave Number Cards
You have numbers from 1 to 10 on the caves. These number cards are for use with the bears to sort under the numbers.

You can see the four different types of numbers you can sort. You have dice, ten frames, tally marks, and dominos.

Ways to Use the Bear Subitizing Number Sorting Printable
Setting up the Bear Number Sorting Activity
You can see we set up four numbers and the items to sort. This is a simple number set for a number learning center. You can say what each of the cave card numbers are and then you count up to each number.
You could also set it up so they get one number at a time, and then they have to go through all the cards to find the correct ones to match.
Sort all the Number Bears
You can start with sorting all the bears to the correct cave numbers. You can see that they line up nicely under the numbers. You can talk about how they know which of the numbers matches correctly.
You can do all the numbers of just a few. Remember You do this for what works best for the student or child you are working with.
Sorting One Number Bear At a Time
You can see how it would look sorting just one bear at a time. You can talk about how they know that they got the correct number.
Put the Number Bears in Number Order
You can use any of the four numbers and have them put them in order. You will have four sets of numbers to use.
Match the Ten Frames on the Bear
You could also use unifix cubes and make the ten frame that they see on the bear. This is another good hands-on counting activity for numbers.
Bear Number Matching Game
You can also use the cards to make a bear number matching game. This is a great way to work on counting and learning to recognize numbers.
