Summer Reading: Beach Themed Reading Charts
Summer is here and we are always looking to do something different at our house! This year we are doing some reading challenges to help with the summer. Every summer we try and read as many books as we can. It is fun and the girls and I love it.
To help with some of our challenges I made a few new reading charts. There are two different types to help our summer: ABC Themed challenge and 100 Charts.
Beach is one of our favorite summer themes. We love keeping track of our reading. I know that times just reading books over and over can be boring for kids. To help with the summer bored in reading I made these fun charts with a beach theme.
There are three kinds of charts. The 100 charts, the ABC by Authors Name and ABC by book title. All three can be used at different levels. They are fun in their own way.
The Beach Themed Reading Charts
The 100 charts are fun because you color in a shell for each book you read. Or if the kids are older have them color in a chapter in their book that they read. It helps you have a great time during the summer seeing just how much you have read.
They have 1 to 100 and 101 to 200 for kids to use.
We also have two ABC theme reading challenges. I’m going to explain each of these
The first is the ABC theme. You look for a book the starts with a letter from the alphabet. You can start at “a” or any other letter you want. I love to have them two it first in order and then mixed up.
I challenged my girls this year to start with the letter “A”. You can see the chart we are using and the first book they found: A Rock Can Be . . . .
This allows you to find new books you have not read in a while or new books by new authors to read.
The last beach reading chart is also based on ABCs but this one goes by the author’s last name! This is a great library search because you can look for new books while searching through the shelves. We might find an author we have never read before. We have found many great book finds this way.
You can see the book they picked out to start was Edgar Gets Ready for Bed by Jennifer Adams. Adams starts with A!
You might find great ideas in these summer reading list.
Each of these is fun for kids to use and loads of fun to change up your summer reading.

I love the alphabet ones especially – what a fun way to explore new books and authors! (I wonder how many authors have a last name that starts with X? lol!)
There are a few! I was surprised when we did it for a library project just how many we found.
