What is Skip Counting?

Skip Counting is adding the same number over and over.

So when you skip count by six you got 6 then, 6 plus 6 equals 12. Then 12 plus 6 equals 18 and so on.

It is also a way of doing repeat addition so that 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 = 24. That is skip counting by 6 four times. You can just keep going on and on.

Skip Counting is one way to work into multiplication and division.

You can use the skip counting bookmarks and then find the matching number on the mat. You can do this forward or backward. You can do both ways to challenge how they are learning.

Multiplication Flashcards with the Skip Counting Mat

One way I love to use the mats is with mutlipication flashcards. You can print the cards you need. We printed the cards two per page and then cut them out. As they find the answer to the flashcard they cover the firework.

You could also do division with the skip counting by 1 mat.
