Exploring Music Notes & Composers
July’s Poppins Book Nook theme is composers. We are lucky enough that the girls grandfather is a composer. I also worked for several years doing classical music data entry. I love listening to all the different types of music. I picked a book that we could learn about a classical composer and listen to music.
The book I picked to read about was The Farewell Symphony. It is about Haydn’s Symphony No. 45. I like that is also has information about the instruments at the end.
One part I like about these stories in this series is that they have based on facts that we know about that time. Each part has real truth to it. My girls liked hearing about the composer.
We looked at different types of music notes in some violin books that we have. We looked at four types of music notes. We got the sheet from Every Star is Different. We did some clapping out the patterns of notes.
For a fun time we did some music notes on 10 Stave paper. We had some from my father in law. It was fun to see them writing notes on the paper.
We talked about there are many types of music in the world. As part of our learning we took a trip to the Ecotarium to explore their Discover Wild Music. You got to explore different types of music and sounds from animals and humans around the world. It was a lot of fun.
At the end of the activity we listened to Souls On Fire by their grandfather and talked about different types of things we heard in the music.
