Ecotarium in December Trip Review

Ecotarium in DecemberName: Ecotarium
Location: Worcester, Massachusetts
Website: http://www.ecotarium.org/
Length of stay: 2 hours

The Ecotarium is one of the girls’ favorite places to visit. We love going to visit to see the changes to the Ecotarium during the winter months. I’ve had people ask why we go back to places and some what I’m going to talk about today will be that. To see my first review go here.

The first stop was to see if the otters were swimming, but they were not. They were sleeping. They did poke their heads up to look at us and then go back to sleep. The girls were slight disappointed, but were told we would check back again.

The girls enjoyed the walk up and we noticed some upgrades done to the area since we had last visited. It was great to see improvements being made. The girls were happy to see the eagles and owls again. They ran right up to the eagles as soon as we got close enough.

Rose was first to point out a lot of the changes that have happened since we were there. She found one right away when we got inside.

We checked out the Mount Washington Area again. This is a favorite because you can see and do so much. They did not want to go in the hurricane simulation again, but pointed it out. We climbed on the rocks and checked the weather. It was fun to spin the wheel back and look at the weather outside. We checked out how the weather was around the time of Hurricane Sandy.

We quickly found our way down to the next floor. The girls had to climb in and look at everything like it was the first time.

The winter train exhibit is always one the girls like. It is the Polar Express in miniature. You push the button and around the train goes. They each take a turn and love it. They race around to watch the train go over the tracks.

One part that was different about this trip was they were setting up a new exhibit for Dinosaur Footprints. The girls were fascinated about this. They watched them work on the new exhibit. I was happy to see them watch. They also asked lots of questions to me about it. I could not answer them all. The person working on the exhibit took a minute and answered their questions. It made the girls happy and look forward to the exhibit.

The girls took a verbal treasure hunt through the African Exhibit. It is fun to quiz them on what they remember in the area.

We finished up the trip and then got a special treat on the way out. We were going to stop at the otters for a minute before it got to cold. Instead we got a treat at the Eagles! We saw they were doing something with them but not sure what. Once we got over we saw they were doing some up keep on them. They were catching the eagles, weighing them and trimming the claws. It was great to watch. Plus the girls were asking me questions and they were taking the time to answer them as well. Plus add more to what I told them. It was a great experience as well. We also saw how they caught and released the eagles. We also learned which is the male and which is the female. They also told us a little about their personalities. A fun treat with every trip we take.

This was a fun trip and the girls are excited about going back now that the Dinosaur Tracks Exhibit is open. It will be fun to see this over the next few months.
