Counting Turkey Feathers
With Thanksgiving coming up we have been doing a few counting activities for it. We have doing lots of fun turkey activities. Today we did some fine motor and counting. This was fun and got her thinking.
Turkeys are always a popular activity at this time. This ties in perfectly to that theme. This is fun and a great sensory experience as well. You have the course sand and then soft feathers.
Before we did this activity we read the book: T is for Turkey: A True Thanksgiving Story. It is loads of fun. There is always something fun you are read about Thanksgiving.
What you need for this activity: turkey cookie cutter, feathers, a die and sand.
We started out my simple stamping the turkeys in the box. She put four turkeys in the box. This was lots of fun to push the turkey cookie shape into the sand.
She then rolls the dice and sticks that many feathers in the sand at the back of the turkey. This was great for counting and fine motor control. She got lots of pincher grip with the feathers and putting them in the sand.
After we finished with the turkeys she made a circle from a lid and did a face with feathers on top that she called “the Native” because she could not say the big long word for the tribe name. She also did a time where she pocked all the feathers into the side. It was lots of fun to see what she would create.
Here are some other books we shall be exploring this Thanksgiving:

This is a cute activity! I don’t think I would have thought to use sand this way, but it works great!
