Cave Painting with Sunset of the Sabertooth
History can be loads of fun to learn about. Each part of history teaches you something. This is one thing I love about the Magic Tree House books. They are always teaching you some small part about history.
This time we are in the ice age and see so many fun ways of life and animals. We have enjoyed doing the Magic Tree House Activities. This time was no different! I love this theme and how fun it was.
We took one part of the book the cave paintings and learned more about them.
We have included links to some of the products and resources we have used with this activity. If you purchase via the links we may earn a small commission.
This week we are in the book Sunset of the Sabertooth.
The book has several parts that were fun to read about. We love the different type of clothes. You saw different animals from the time. We learned more about the age in the book: Sabertooths and the Ice Age: A Nonfiction Companion to Magic Tree House 7: Sunset of the Sabertooth.
It talked about that they cave painting and how they were done. They used feathers and handprints. It was fun to learn more about it. We really enjoyed learning aoubt each part of the area.
What you need to make your cave painting
There are just a fwe of the items and these can all be changed up with your activity. But I find it handy to have a list.
How to make your cave Painting
In the book, it pointed out they use black, red and white for their paints and we are sticking to that for out cave paintings. We talked about what they might have used to make the colors. We also used brown paper to be our cave wall.
We start off my lightly drawing out ideas on paper. We talked about how they would not have done this on the cave walls.
In that time they used feathers abut we did not have any so we used q-tips. It is a fun way to change up painting and getting fine motor work at the same time.
Then we started out painting. We outlined our paintings with black or red. It was different to see how the colors changed on the paper.
As we did each of our paintings we mixed in the white and red with the black. Each of our paintings changed as we mixed up the colors.
Here is a look at our Cave Paintings
Be sure to check out all the Magic Tree House Activities.
