Hands-On Candy Themed Skip Counting by 8 Puzzles
Puzzles have always been a part of our learning. I love how they take a basic skill and make it hands-on. I also love using them for skip counting. Puzzles make a fun addition to learning math.
Today I have some free candy themed skip counting puzzles. They are great for all year and around Halloween as well. These puzzles are skip counting by 8.
This is a part of the 5 Days of Candy Printables.
I love that skip counting works so well into multiplication and division. It is a fun skill to learn for kids. Plus puzzles make it loads of fun for them.
I also love that these have a fun candy theme that can be used all year! I know that candy is fun around Halloween and Valentines.
Each of the puzzles is skip counting by 8. The first puzzle goes from 8 to 80 and the second set goes from 88 to 160. There are two sets of the puzzles. One set is vertical and the other is horizontal.
How we use these printables
I laminate each of the puzzles and the blank board in the set. Since I have several sets of puzzles I have a blank board all set up. It makes it easier to reuse. I put putty on the puzzles or the board. If we are just doing one puzzle, I do the puzzle pieces. If we are doing several puzzles, I do it on the blank board. This time I just did the blank board. You can see an example of it on the puzzles pieces here.
The first time through the puzzle I just give her the board and the puzzle cut out. I will tell her the pattern of the numbers. Example: The puzzles are skip counting by 8s. Then she puts the puzzle together. I have her tell me the numbers as she puts them on the board. If it is a new number pattern, I might give her the skip counting bookmarks to help from the 8 to 80.
After she has the puzzle finished we skip counting forward and then backward. This is a way to work in more of the memorization of the skip counting pattern.
I might also just give her the board and puzzles mixed up and have her fix the numbers on it. Then tell me the numbers.
What you will find in these printables:
