Camping Themed L Blends Sorting

I love sorting mats because they allow you so many different things. Plus you can take someone who does not like worksheets and learn something new. And today I have a blends themed sorting mat to help with just that.

The camping mats work on the “l” blends with sorting mats and cards.

I know that during the summer people love to switch from worksheets to more hands-on and this is perfect to help with that.

I love having themed work and this is a perfect addition to the summer printables on the site.

Blends are where you have to letters that blend together to make a sound. This is a consonant blend activity for kids to blend those sounds.

You can work on six l blends: bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, and sl. This gives you a fun set of blends to mix and match. These are great to use with kids in later kindergarten and early first grade. They can also be a great review for second grade.

The set has six sorting mats. You can use the mats come with two blends per mat. It has a sign with the blend on it. You can keep them together or cut the mats apart based on what you are learning.

You can see that we have the trim cut off the outside of the mat. I would recommend printing on cardstock and laminating them if you are going to use them over and over.

There are three cards for each blend to sort. They have a tent with a picture of the blend on it. We printed ours on white cardstock.

Ways to use the Camping Themed L Blends Sorting

You can use the mats together or apart. I like to start with the matching mats together. You can see how I set up the activity here.

You can work on the blends you need. I like to have them pull a card and then say the word of the picture. This allows me to see if they are learning it or not.

Then they sort the tents to the right part of the mat. You can see how the cards are fun on the mat.

Another activity you could do it just match the cards. There are three cards to match. You could start with two cards and add the third card later. I did not do it this time but these cards also work great on rings for a matching game.
