Make Punch Guides for Kids
If you are using the punches, then make punch guides. This allows them to see the shell size they are punching out.
We also keep paper we used for the punch so they can see how far up on the paper the punch will go.
How we made the Beach Wreath
You will see the steps below we used to make our beach wreath.
Dot Marker the Wreath
You want to start by dot marketing the paper plate you’ll use for the wreath. If you do this first then it gives the plate time to dry before you glue the shells on.
If you don’t have the brown dot marker, you can use watercolors to paint the wreath.
Color the Paper
The next step is to color the cardstock paper. Kids can use any colors they want and oil pastels work great for blending colors as well.
We use cardstock because it is stronger and holdes up better with the punching and gluing.
You can use the shell punches examples to see about size. You can put it beside where you are coloring or around the area you are coloring. After you finish put the shell on top to see if the area is big enough.
You could also use the paper you punched examples out for a guide. It is a simple to use tool when doing this wreath craft.
Punch out the Shells
After the coloring is done, you use the shell punches to punch out your shells.
You can use the punch on the table and push the punch and make the shell.
If you have older kids, they could turn the punch upside down and punch the shell. This helps get the shell lined up the way you want. Plus you get a better look at how the shell will look.
A Look at the Shells
You can see how the shells look after they have been punched out. Each shell will be unique and different. And that makes this loads of fun.
You can see that this one has two parts to the shell punch.
Repeat the Coloring and Punching
You are going to repeat the coloring and punching of the shells. You are going to do this as many times as you need to get all the shells you want for your wreath.
And kids can do as many or as few as they want. Let them decide how many shells they are making.
Place Shells Around the Wreath
After you have finished all the shells you want to make, place them around the wreath. These can be placed in any other and any way. Let kids be creative.
And if kids want to skip this step and go right to gluing, they can.
Glue on the Shells
After you have your shells around the wreath, you can glue them in place. We used clear glue to glue the shells.
