August Poppins Book Nook: Books that Were Made into Movies
I’m very excited about August’s theme. There are so many books that have been made into movies. It will be hard to pick just one book. I really like that each month we always have fun books to explore.
I thought I would share some of our favorite books that are movies.
We have included links to some of the products and resources we have used with this activity. If you purchase via the links we may earn a small commission.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a classic that my girls love watching. We read it some last year and loved it. There are been several different movies made about it.
Charlotte’s Web (Trophy Newbery) is another classic. This is one that my girls have had read to them. It is also one that they have had read to them at school as well.
Mary Poppins is one that I knew was a book but we never looks into it until we saw the movie: Saving Mr. Banks. I think we will be reading this book at some point.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (Classic Seuss) is one we read and watch during Christmas time. I love a lot of the books by Dr Seuss. They are always fun.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is a book series we just started reading. I love that the girls can listen to me read and then we can watch the movies together. It is going to take a few years for the girls and I to read them all.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass (Bantam Classics) was made into an animated film by Disney. I did find out there are several different versions that were made. I think this on our to read list.
How to Train Your Dragon is a book we have talked about reading as a family. We have not done it yet but we plan to at some time.
Sword in the Stone (Essential Modern Classics) is a book we have not read but love the movie. It is another to look into reading. It was such a fun movie to watch.
The Lorax (Classic Seuss) is a favorite book and movie! We have done several activities with this book: Truffula Tree Number Matching – The Lorax, Yarn Truffula Trees, and Torn Paper Truffula Trees.
The Night at the Museum is a movie series the girls and I have loved. I think we will be picking up this book to add our reading list.

For the longest time I didn’t know Mary Poppins was a book either! My favorite has to be Harry Potter though. 🙂
