Apples Watercolor Process Art
I love getting creative with our art projects. We have done so many fun ones over the years. And we have always had a blast with the fall ones. Apples seem to be a favorite for us.
I like that apples come in many colors and sizes. It allows kids to be creative in how they do crafts with apples. We had a blast making our watercolor apples!
We have included links to some of the products and resources we have used with this activity. If you purchase via the links we may earn a small commission.
I love tying in our crafts with books and we have always loved The Apple Pie Tree. It has been a favorite to read. I love the story. Plus this is another great activity for the apple activities on the site.
I also love that this is a creative process that they decide what happens in all parts of it.
What you need for the Apple Watercolor Process Art:
- watercolors
- watercolor paper
- oil pastels
- bowls of water
How we made our Apple Watercolor Process Art:
I always have us start out by drawing the apples with a pencil. The pencil makes it easy to make changes. Plus it is easy to trace a line already there.
We follow the drawing with a tracing of the lines with an oil pastel. We used red but you could do a yellow or green apple as well. You are not limited by color.
Then comes the fun part. We fill in the area of the apple with water. You want to make sure the whole area has water and you can see the water if you look at it. We keep a clean bowl to use for this.
Once the apple area is filled with water you then put watercolor on your brush and drip and move the brush in the water to make fun designs. It is interesting to watch how the color spreads. We used different colors of reds, yellows, and greens to fill in the color on the apple.
After we painted the apple we let it dry a bit and then we painted the green background. This was to make it look like the apple was on the tree.
